Description

The simple process of stringing beads is so satisfying. It is primitive and peaceful. The beads themselves, however, can be basic or complex depending on design, material, and technique. Create patterns to make three dimensional beads to be used as wearable objects. Use methods of assembly including stringing, linking, cold connecting, tab construction and soldering. Blanking dies will allow us to quickly cut out multiples in metal.

Techniques taught:

• Developing flat patterns used for three dimensional beads made from metal sheet
• Prototyping with heavy aluminum foil
• Making silhouette dies in cast acrylic and thermal plastic to create beads with contour
• How to saw a blanking die out of tool steel
• How to make a blanking die to cut out a puffed form made in a silhouette die
• How to use a hydraulic press
• Using rivets and tabs to connect beads
• Tips and tricks using flex shaft accessories
• How to make your own forming tools
